[ Gothic 3 ] The Eternal Wanderer transcript gaoneng January 31, 2007 ============= LEGAL STUFF ============= Gothic 3 is a video game developed for the pc platform. For more information on this game, visit http://www.jowood.com/ http://www.gothic3.com/ All copyrights belong their rightful owner. The purpose of this document is to transcribe to plain text some of the monologues in the game that have no subtitles. The transcript is by no means the original script, and is based entirely on what I heard with my own ears. I believe this to be fair use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use I can be contacted at gaoneng [at] gmail [dot] com This document is for personal use only, and is not to be copied or distributed for commercial purposes. ====================== The Eternal Wanderer ====================== Throughout the game, Nameless, i.e. you, will find many tomes and pillars with fragmented records of the history of the lands. These fragments add a lot of flavour to the game, but there are so many of them, it's unlikely a regular player will ever find them all. And besides, unlike other dialogues in the game, these sequences do not have any subtitles, and some people may have difficulty following the story. This isn't a guide to where these "AK (ancient knowledge) boosters" are. Their locations are partially random in any case. This is a transcript of all the monologues that take place when Nameless examines the ancient texts. So, if you've missed any, here's your chance to catch up on the history lesson. Watch out for mild spoilers ahead. It's recommended that you do not read these until you've at least completed the game once. While these entries do not directly describe the current events in the game, they may affect your decision and judgment in the end. =============== Book of Flood =============== i In the beginning, the Nomads roamed the land. ii And the Eternal Wanderer lead the way. iii And Innos spoke to the Eternal Wanderer, "lay aside your staff!" iv And in its stead, Innos gave him a scepter. And the Eternal Wanderer became His servant. v And Innos gave him a part of His divine power, so that he might curb the doings of Beliar. vi And the power was fire, and he controlled it as he saw fit. vii But some among the Nomads would not follow Innos. And the people of the Nomads were divided. viii And those who followed Innos arrected great temples, and they became the people of Varant. And the scepter became the token of their rulership. ix And Innos spoke to His servants, “erect a portal for me, so that I might reign over this world in all eternity.” x And His servants did as they were bidden. xi But when Beliar saw what the servants of Innos were doing, He screamed with rage. xii And a Being of ancient power heeded His call, and arose from the earth. And some other great beings arose as well. xiii But the time of the great beings had come to an end, for thus was the will of Adanos. xiv And Adanos called a flood, and the Being was washed off the earth. xv When the servant of Innos realized what was happening, he had the five divine artifacts brought into the temple. xvi And the people of Varant perished, staff and scepter sank down into the waters. xvii And Adanos said to His brothers, “nevermore shall you set foot in my land, for it is sacred.” Thus shall it be. ================ Book of Rhobar ================ i The Barbarians lived in Nordmar, and Rhobar was one of them. ii He wandered through the ice without fire or weapons, and the Beast was hunting him. iii Rhobar hid in a cave, but the Beast tracked him down. iv And Rhobar felt behind, and there he found a sword. He took it, and killed the Beast with one stroke. v But the sword was surrounded by fire, and Innos was with it. vi And Innos said to Rhobar, “descend from the mountains, and defeat my enemies.” vii And Rhobar waged war against the Orcs, and the wrath of Innos descended upon them. And Rhobar was victorious. viii Once his enemies were defeated, Innos said to him, “this is where you shall establish your kingdom.” And Rhobar did as he was bidden. =============== Book of Zuben =============== i After the first Great War, the Orcs ruled the kingdom of Myrtana. ii And the Humans were their slaves, but the fighters were their gladiators. iii One of them was Zuben, and he fought well, for he shared the beliefs of the Orcs. iv And the Orcs granted him his freedom. And Zuben wandered south. v But on his journey, he found the staff of the Eternal Wanderer. And he took it with him. vi And Beliar said to him, “now, proceed to the country of the Nomads, and establish a realm for me.” vii And Zuben went to the desert. And there he drove his staff into the ground and said, “this is where I shall build my realm for you.” viii And the faith of the Orcs became the faith of the Humans. ============================= The Chronicles of Dominance ============================= [ The Chronicles isn't exactly part of the ancient knowledge sequences. It is a special book from somewhere in the game. I can't remember if it actually grants any bonus to ancient knowledge, but it is part of the lore anyway, so I include it here. ] i Akascha had orders to hide the last artifact in the temple. ii And the waters raged as Akascha looked on, and the temple sank beneath the surface. iii And Akascha wandered north, until he came to the huge mountain range in eternal ice. iv And he founded a clan, and it was the Clan of the Fire. ========== Generics ========== [ And that's it, any other "AK booster" you find after this has no special lines. Nameless will simply speak one of three generic lines. ] i Ancient knowledge. Interesting. ii Something about the history of the ancient culture. iii Here is something about the ancient magic. Enjoy! gaoneng 2007
